전시 소개
《다게르의 밤: 두 번째 사진술에 대하여》는 다게레오타입의 역사와 물질적 특성을 실제 작품과 공간을 통해 경험하도록 기획한 전시이다.
1840–50년대의 오리지널 다게레오타입과 현대 작가들이 제작한 다게레오타입을 함께 전시하고, 다게르가 자신의 새로운 사진술을 사람들에게 보여주던 장면을 상상하여 19세기 거실풍의 공간을 구성하였다. 은판의 반사와 빛에 따라 이미지가 나타나고 사라지는 다게레오타입의 특성을 직접 경험할 수 있도록 했으며, 제작 과정과 관련 사진집 및 국내외 전문서적 약 40권도 함께 소개하였다.
2022년 스페이스 중학에서 처음 열린 전시는 같은 해 부산국제사진제 특별전으로 이어졌으며, 부산 전시에서는 8×10인치 다게레오타입 「말 I」을 비롯한 작품과 제작 과정에 대한 설명을 추가하여 전시의 범위를 확장하였다.

Exhibition Introduction
Daguerre’s Night:
About the Second Photography was conceived as an exhibition through which visitors could encounter the history and material qualities of the daguerreotype through original objects, contemporary works, and the exhibition space itself.
Original daguerreotypes from the 1840s and 1850s were presented alongside works by contemporary practitioners. The exhibition recreated the atmosphere of a nineteenth-century parlor, imagining the circumstances in which Daguerre might have shown his newly invented photographic process to others. It was designed to let viewers experience the distinctive nature of the daguerreotype—an image that appears and disappears according to light, reflection, and viewing angle. The exhibition also included demonstrations of the process and approximately forty books and specialist publications on the daguerreotype.
First presented at Space Junghak in 2022, the exhibition was later invited as a Special Exhibition of the Busan International Photo Festival 2022. The Busan presentation expanded the exhibition with additional works, including the 8 × 10 inch daguerreotype Horse I, as well as more detailed material on the making process.
